I want to apply, what should I do?
READ ALL THE INFORMATION IN THE APPLICATION GUIDE
STEP 1 Verify whether the higher education institution of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation of your choice participates in the MASTER IN – WBI grant programme. The grant may only be applied to a defined selection of study programmes as determined by certain institutions. Higher education institutions reserve the right not to process or respond to applications that are unrelated to the MASTER IN 2026–2027 call.
STEP 2 Submit an admission request to the targeted higher education institution, according to the procedures specific to that institution. Your admission request for a master’s program at a university will receive a reference number to be included on the form. In other cases (university colleges, schools of arts), no number must be indicated.
STEP 3 Send your application form and the four annexes to the targeted institution. If it is a university, indicate the reference number of your admission file.
STEP 4 The host institution pre-selects the eligible applications.
STEP 5 Its ranking is transmitted to Wallonia-Brussels International, which makes the final selection based on defined criteria, no later than April 20, 2026.
STEP 6 Results are communicated by Wallonia-Brussels International to the targeted higher education institution no later than May 15, 2026.
STEP 7 The candidate is informed of the outcome of their application by the targeted higher education institution.
All stays must begin in the calendar year of the selection. No postponements will be possible.
If the student is not awarded the grant and therefore decides not to pursue his/her application for admission to the host institution, the application fees incurred will not be reimbursed.
I'm from the Comoros, can I apply?
The call is open to all nationalities. However, those who have studied in the 14 countries/regions listed are given priority, but the HEI is free to pass on your application if it gives you priority.
I studied in French, do I need to provide a French language test?
Language tests are recommended but not obligatory. In the event of minor or major deficiencies, language courses may be offered according to the specific terms and conditions of each institution. In addition, French-speaking students from French-speaking higher education institutions will be required to provide proof of language proficiency.
How do I target the higher education institution ?
That's up to you. Check out the range of courses on offer in French-speaking Belgium at www.studyinbelgium.be
How do I obtain an admission file number?
This involves applying for admission/registration with the target higher education institution. To find out the conditions, please visit the website of the target higher education institution. Be aware of the application deadlines. They may vary from one institution to another.
In addition, institutions are free to reserve the call for certain courses.
Where should I send my application form and attachments?
Certainly not to WBI, but to the higher education institution targeted at the specific address given with the call. If there is no specific address, you should send the completed form and enclosures to the enrolment department, provided that you have already taken the necessary steps to enrol.
I have a licence, can I apply?
To apply, you must meet the admission requirements of the target higher education institution and not have a degree awarded more than 5 years before the start of the planned course. To find out whether you meet the admission requirements, please visit the registration site for foreign students on the website of the target institution.
This programme does not apply to baccalaureate studies, i.e. the first 3 years of higher education.
How does the selection process work?
The targeted institution prioritises its applications according to its own criteria and forwards them to WBI, which, through a special jury, makes the final decision based on a number of criteria and the available budget.
Will I receive the grant before I start my course?
No. It will be paid in instalments, subject to compliance with the conditions specified in the grant, if and only if you are successful in the 2-stage selection process (1. by the higher education institution - 2. by WBI). Do not apply for a study visa without official confirmation. The grant only covers certain items and not food. You will need to supplement this aid with personal funds.
