Programme description

EMBO is an organisation of over 1,800 leading researchers that promotes excellence in the life sciences in Europe and beyond. The main objectives of the organisation are to support talented researchers at all stages of their careers, to encourage the exchange of scientific information and to contribute to a quality research environment.

EMBO helps young scientists to develop their research, promote their international reputation and ensure their mobility. EMBO Press courses, workshops, conferences and publications disseminate the latest research and provide training in techniques to maintain high standards of excellence in research practice. EMBO helps shape science policy, soliciting input and feedback from its community and monitoring trends in science.

  • EMBO post-doctoral fellowships are awarded for a maximum duration of two years.
  • Short-term fellowships fund research exchanges of up to three months between laboratories in eligible countries. Successful applicants may stay for a further three months (maximum); however, EMBO will not provide funding for this extended period.
  • EMBO Core Facility Fellowships fund international exchanges of up to one month between core research facilities in eligible countries.
  •  The Joint ERS, a collaboration between EMBO and the European Respiratory Society (ERS), two long-term grants of up to one year and four short-term grants of one to three months. The ERS-EMBO joint grants are grants for basic research in respiratory sciences with a research project in molecular biology.
